Biohellenika SA is a biotechnology company focusing on cell cryopreservation and support of cell therapies.
Labs and Locations
Biohellenika S.A., the leading private cord blood bank in Greece. It was founded in 2006 by Professors Dr. George Koliakos and Dr. Kokkona Kouzi-Koliakos of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
The bank provides comprehensive services for the collection, processing, testing, cryopreservation, and long-term storage of umbilical cord blood and tissue stem cells, exclusively for autologous and family-related use.
In 2025, Biohellenika earned FACT accreditation for related cord blood banking, reflecting its strict adherence to international quality and safety standards. The Greek Ministry of Health fully licenses the bank, which operates in accordance with EU and international regulations.
Biohellenika's facilities feature GMP-compliant cleanrooms and advanced cryogenic storage systems. Its central laboratory is located in Thessaloniki, with a network of collection points across Greece, Cyprus, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Italy. To date, the bank has preserved over 48,000 cord blood and tissue samples.
In addition to biobanking services, Biohellenika is actively engaged in molecular diagnostics as well as in scientific research and clinical collaborations in the fields of regenerative medicine and cellular therapies.
