BebéCord is a family bank, authorized by the National Health Authority in Portugal, with more than 14 years of experience. Their laboratory has more than 98,000 cryopreserved samples and has provided 7 treatments using stored stem cells.

Labs and Locations

BebéCord relies on the laboratory of Stemlab SA, which is a member of FamiCord Group, the largest network of cord blood banks in Europe.

Business Experience

BebéCord's laboratory started its activity in 2006 and now has more than 14 years of experience. So far the laboratory has inventory of more than 90,000 samples stored. BebéCord also has a team of experts and personalized customer managers who support parents in taking the decision of storing stem cells, providing all the necessary information about the harvesting and cryopreservation process, and with a personalized follow-up that is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

Collection Kit

The collection kit has a refrigeration system and is authorized by Infarmed. Additionally, it contains an isothermal box specific for biological substances and an innovative instantaneous ice activation system, to be used at the time of delivery.

Transportation container

The Kit, in addition to a box developed for physical and thermal protection, has all the components necessary for keeping the proper temperature and data recording (isothermal gel bags and monitoring logger) and should be kept at room temperature.

Shipping Info

After delivery, parents should call BebéCord directly and everything will be handled by BebéCord. The transport to the lab is carried out by a company specialized in the transport of biological samples, always at controlled temperature. There are no additional costs in this process for parents.

Processing Method

For blood processing, BebéCord Lab uses a method that maximize cell recovery through advanced processing, increasing efficiency.

Components Stored

In addition to the umbilical cord blood, BebéCord Lab stores a plasma sample, umbilical cord fragment, and a sample of maternal blood (collected on the day of delivery).

Storage Method

Samples are stored in the vapor phase of cryogenic nitrogen at temperatures below -180ºC. The final sample is cryopreserved in a cryobag that includes 3 testing segments for future analysis without compromising the main sample.

Licensing & Accreditation

BebéCord is authorized by the Ministry of Health in Portugal (DGS - national health authority). Stemlab laboratory has an international accreditation.

Clinical Experience

There have been 7 children treated with their own cord blood samples stored in our laboratory - 5 children for cerebral palsy and 2 children for autism.

Insurance

BebéCord offers its customers a Treatment Support Plan of up to 20,000 Euros in case of treatment with umbilical cord blood stem cells. BebéCord also has a sample protection insurance of Euro 110 million.

Community Service

BebéCord has special discounts for twin pregnancy and partnerships with other brands that provide additional benefits to customers.

Prices

To store cord blood stem cells, the customer needs to purchase a harvest kit worth 125€ and additionally deposit 1495€ to cover all stages of the service, namely the collection, transport of the kit to the laboratory, the processing of blood, the blood tests of the umbilical cord and maternal blood, cryopreservation and storage for 25 years.

Prices with Additional Services

In addition to the cryopreservation of umbilical cord blood, BebéCord offers the cryopreservation of umbilical cord tissue by two methods. The bundle price to combine cord blood and cord tissue services €2095.
