Anthony Nolan Cord Blood Bank
FACT: Public & Family
About
Bank Director: Roger Horton, PhDAnthony Nolan is the UK's leading blood cancer charity, bone marrow registry, and cord blood bank.
The headquarters of Anthony Nolan are in London but the laboratory of the Cell Therapy Center is located at Nottingham Trent University. The Anthony Nolan programme to collect cord blood started in 2008, and Anthony Nolan works closely with the NHS to make sure that, together, they meet the UK need for cord blood.
Anthon Nolan asks mothers to donate their entire umbilical cord, not just the blood. This enables Anthony Nolan to be a supplier to research groups that need cord blood (the units that do not qualify for public banking) or that need cord tissue. They only collaborate on research proposals that meet the ethical approval of the Anthony Nolan independent review board.
