Tianjin Cord Blood Bank

About

The Tianjin "model" of stem cell translational medicine can be traced back to the founding of a national center of excellence in hematology research and education in 1957. The Tianjin model was studied in a paper published in 2008 and again in 2020 it was published in the academic literature.

Starting in 2002, under the leadership of Zhongchao Han, the Tianjin center became one of the world's leading biobanks and therapeutic resources for perinatal stem cells. By Dec. 2007 their inventory of 100,000 cord blood donations was already the world's largest public bank. Their website says that for patients within China, the probability of finding a donor that matches at more than 4 sites of HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) has reached 99.23%.

At present (2023), the Tianjin cord blood bank is owned by Zhongyuan Concord, which is a subsidiary of Zhongyuan Xiehe Stem Cell Gene Engineering Co., Ltd. This parent company also owns the VCANBIO family cord blood bank.
