Oklahoma Blood Institute
Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) announced a public cord blood bank at the beginning of 2014, but progress has been slow and the bank is launching in 2018.
Oklahoma is home to many minority groups, such as Native Americans, who are not well represented in existing cord blood banks. Oklahoma Blood Institute is the ninth largest independent, nonprofit, blood center in the United States. Their cord blood bank is being established thanks to generous contributions from several Oklahoma foundations and scores of individuals. The medical director of the cord blood bank is John Armitage, M.D.
