Labs and Locations

In our laboratory in Leipzig, our stem cell experts take over. They prepare the cord blood and cord tissue for storage: this is done within 48-72 hours after birth. They also perform the quality check and extensively test the cord blood, cord tissue, and a sample of maternal blood: For viruses, impurities and, if necessary, for the functionality of the stem cells. This is how we ensure the usability of your provision for the future. In the end:  Open the tank, insert the stem cells, put the lid on, and allow them a long, restful sleep! Independent of electricity and in the gas phase above liquid nitrogen: Cryopreservation at -180° C.

Business Experience

• eticur GmbH was founded to promote cord blood storage in collaboration with University Clinic of Erlangen in 2005. 
• In July 2020, eticur was acquired by FamiCord
• eticur is operating under supervision of German health authorities according to strict German pharmaceutical regulation

Collection Kit

• The eti.box contains all the high-quality medical materials and documents required for collection.
• A small amount of CPD anticoagulant will prevent clotting of the cord blood and ensures better survival of the stem cells in the cord blood.
• The collection set is double-sterile packed and can therefore be used in the operating room even during a section.

Transportation container

• The umbilical cord blood and collection kit are transported in a thermally insulated box.
• The permissible temperature range of the box is 18-26 ° Celsius; 2 large gel pads serve to stabilize the temperature.
• A temperature logger is enclosed in the box to keep a record of the temperature.

Shipping Info

• We organize the delivery of the eti.box before birth with different transport service providers, depending on urgency
• Our customers receive the eti.box about eight weeks before the calculated due date of birth
• If the due date is very close, we need about 1-2 working days to deliver the eti.box (always assuming medical approval!)
• The transport of the filled eti.box after collection to our laboratory is done by a special courier
• The courier will be informed by the hospital after collection
• The courier is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Processing Method

• Quality control, preparation and cryopreservation takes place in our laboratory
• Successful processing is communicated by means of a storage confirmation, including the final invoice
• After completion of all tests and quality controls, a certificate including an overview of the diagnostic tests is sent out

Components Stored

• Cord blood is stored in the form of whole blood. We also store five test samples for eventual further quality tests before application.
• Cord tissue is stored in the form of tissue samples.

Storage Method

• Storage is done by using liquid nitrogen.
• The preparations are stored in large cryotanks in the gas phase of cryogenic nitrogen at -180° C.
• The blood bags and the metal cassettes are extremely cold-resistant and are particularly suitable for storage over very long periods.
• Each main preparation in the bag is accompanied additionally by five small reserve samples for further testing prior to use.

Licensing & Accreditation

Our laboratory has permission from the German Federal Institute for Immunizations and Biomedical Pharmaceuticals (Paul Ehrlich Institute) for the production and distribution of autologous and allogenic preparations from cord blood.

Clinical Experience

FamiCord Group provided 266 units of umbilical cord blood for therapeutic use as of March 2026.

• Customers receive an invoice only after successful storage.
• If collection cannot be made or the cord blood and/or cord tissue cannot be stored for quality reasons, the parents will not have to bear any costs for the effected biological materials.
