Mononuclear Therapeutics Limited, or MonoTX, was founded to collect cord blood donations that would be available for regenerative medicine therapies, such as treatment of spinal cord injury. Mothers who donate to MonoTX can get back their cord blood mononuclear (stem) cells at no cost if one of their children has a need for cell therapy.
MonoTX headquarters and laboratory are both located in the Hong Kong Science Park. Mononuclear Therapeutics Limited is a partner company of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP). Prof. Wise Young, a world leader in research to heal spinal cord injury with cord blood, is both Chairman and Laboratory Director of this newest public cord blood bank in Hong Kong. MonoTX achieved AABB accreditation in Dec. 2019.
MonoTX is collaborating with the Chinese University of Hong Kong to apply umbilical cord blood in preclinical animal studies of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), a neurological condition that affects newborns and leads to lifelong disabilities.
