Leuvense Navelstrengbloedbank (Leuven Cord Blood Bank) is located with in the Hematology Department at the University Hospital of Leuven (UZ Leuven campus Gasthuisberg). For the collection of cord blood, Leuven Cord blood bank works closely with midwives, GPs, and nurses from maternity hospitals across Flanders. Without their cooperation the Leuven bank milestones would never be reached. Read their brochure for parents.

From the story of Marlies and mama Hilde (original in Dutch):

"Onze dochter had geen kans op overleven zonder die stamceltransplantatie. Ik had tevoren wel al van de navelstrengbloedbank gehoord, maar stond er niet bij stil. Nu ik betrokken partij ben, wil ik het aan elke zwangere vrouw zeggen: zet gewoon die handtekening om je navelstrengbloed af te staan."

Marlies is een gewoon meisje van twaalf. Ze is gek op haar paard Springtime en kijkt uit naar haar nieuwe boekentas om naar het eerste middelbaar te gaan. Wat bijzonder aan haar is, is dat ze nog leeft. Dankzij een transplantatie met stamcellen uit de navelstrengbloedbank.

English translation:

"Our daughter had no chance of survival without the stem cell transplant. I had heard before the cord blood bank, but was not on it still. Now I'm interested party, I want to say it to every pregnant woman: just put that signature to donate your umbilical cord blood.

Marlies is an ordinary girl of twelve. She loves to go on her horse Springtime  and looks forward to her new book bag for the first secondary. What is special about her is that she's still alive. Thanks to a transplant using stem cells from the cord blood bank.
