LifebankUSA was founded as a family cord blood bank in 1998. Since 2006, LifebankUSA is the only bank in the US that offers families storage of blood from the placenta as well.  Research supports the harvesting of placental blood as a way to boost the number of blood-forming stem cells that are collected and stored.

Under their parent company Celularity, LifebankUSA collects donations of both cord blood and placenta. Cord blood donations are banked for transplant, and placenta donations are used to develop therapeutic products that have been in clinical trials for a variety of applications, from fighting cancer to healing wounds. 

As of January 2025, LifebankUSA offers to send donation collection kits to expectant mothers nationwide. Moms who want to donate are required to complete their enrollment by week 34 of the pregnancy to determine eligibility.
