Expanded Cord Blood

In clinical trials of "expanded cord blood", researchers isolate specific cell populations from cord blood and grow them in culture to expand the cell numbers prior to therapy. Examples of cell types that are prepared this way include NK cells, Tregs, CTLs, CAR-modified cells, MSC extracted from cord blood, and  products designed to speed the engraftment of cord blood transplants.
