AABB: Public & Family
LifebankUSA seeks mothers in NEW YORK & NEW JERSEY ONLY who will donate both their cord blood and their placenta. The donations support an international registry, clinical trials and research. Donations can be taken from any hospital in these states, but mothers must register at least 8 weeks prior to delivery and pass a health screening.
LifebankUSA also partners with Life Line Stem Cell to collect donations from select hospitals in the midwest.
LifebankUSA was founded as a family cord blood bank in 1998. Since 2006, LifebankUSA is the only bank in the US that offers families storage of blood from the placenta as well. Research supports the harvesting of placental blood as a way to boost the number of blood-forming stem cells that are collected and stored. On the family banking page, more information is available about Lifebank's family banking services.
The public donations support a pipeline of therapeutic products that are being developed from stem cells derived from both cord blood and perinatal tissues (umblical cord matrix, the placenta) and these products have been used in several clinical trials.
