AABB Annual Meeting Highlights Conference and Exhibition in the Middle East 2019

AABB is pleased to announce the return of the AABB Annual Meeting Highlights Conference and Exhibition in the Middle East. The conference, first held in January 2018, will bring the latest news, information and best practices in transfusion medicine and cellular therapies to professionals in the region.

The 2019 Conference will be held January 25-26 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and will feature presentations, comprehensive informative sessions, panel discussions, workshops and industry symposia from experts in fields of transfusion medicine and cellular therapies.

“AABB’s Annual Meeting Highlights Conference is a crucial opportunity for AABB to bring the latest developments from the fields of transfusion medicine and cellular therapies directly to professionals from across the Middle East, Africa and Asia,” said Michael Murphy, MD, FRCP, FRCPath, FFPath, president of AABB. “This event supports and reinforces AABB’s vision of making transfusion medicine and cellular therapies safe, effective and available worldwide.”

This year’s program will highlight key sessions from the 2018 AABB Annual Meeting, which took place in Boston in October. Speakers will cover some of the most important topics in the fields in lectures and in roundtable discussions, including:

  • Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell (CAR T) therapy.
  • Personalized and precision transfusion medicine.
  • Pregnancy challenges for the transfusion service.
  • Preparing for a mass casualty event.
  • Minimizing transfusion reactions.
  • Transfusion-associated circulatory overload (TACO).
  • Patient blood management.
  • Transfusion management of coagulopathies.
  • Pediatric transfusion medicine.
  • Therapeutic apheresis.
  • Extracorporeal photopheresis.
  • Iron management of blood donors.

AABB designed the conference to provide a unique educational experience for professionals in various stages of their careers. The target audience for the conference includes CEOs, medical directors, laboratory supervisors, administrators (local health authorities), allied health professionals (technologists), pathologists, transfusion medicine physicians, cellular therapy and blood banking professionals, medical technologists, clinical physicians, nurses and fellows/trainees. The conference offers discounted registration rates for both students and non-physicians to ensure the program is accessible to all individuals working in transfusion medicine and cellular therapies.

“AABB’s commitment to supporting professionals in the fields of transfusion medicine and cellular therapies doesn’t stop at any stage in one’s career or at any border, which is why the Association is pleased to present the latest in research and best practices to a global audience that may otherwise be unable to access AABB’s educational opportunities” Murphy said. “Returning to Abu Dhabi allows for a new group of transfusion medicine specialists -- both experienced professionals and those just starting out in the field – to hear from leading experts, advance their understanding of these fields and improve the way we care for patients and donors.

Standard registration rates for the 2019 Conference are available until January 18, 2019.  Additional information is available on the conference website.
