KLB Imunolita is the first Baltic Stem Cell Bank. The laboratory in Vilnius Lithuania serves all of the Baltic countries.
KLB Imunolita is the first Baltic Stem Cell Bank. As of Feb. 2012, they have 700 cord blood collections stored for families. The laboratory was established in 2006 by a group of Lithuanian scientists and received accreditation by the Ministry of Health in 2007. In 2011, KLB was nominated in “Successful young hi-tech company” contest in Lithuania. Our personnel consist of qualified doctors, biologists, immunologists, biophysics, and geneticists, who constantly following and participating in stem cell research. KLB has implemented quality assurance system based on European Union Standards and Lithuanian Law, all processes established accordingly to other European stem cell banks practice.
KLB Imunolita provides blood bags for cord blood collection by gravity. The disinfection supplies are Betadine and Isopropyl alcohol wipes and the anti-coagulant is CPD. Imunolita uses the Pall blood bag that is sterile both inside and out so that it may be used in the operating room for a C-section.
Imunolita provides a certified container for blood transportation. The container has thermal insulation and is validated to maintain room temperature for 48 hours under test conditions.
Imunolita contract price includes shipping within Lithuania, but costs extra from outside. The shipping arrangements are made by the bank: couriers will personally pick up the blood, and the couriers are available on weekends and holidays.
Imunolita separates stem cells by the “Rubinstein" manual processing method.
Parents are provided with a certificate describing test results: cell counts, viability. The separated "buffy coat" containing white cells and stem cells is stored, along with a sample of maternal blood and testing portions of the baby's blood.
The final cell sample is stored first in a quarantine freezer, until it clears infectious disease testing. Then it is moved to final storage in cryogenic nitrogen. The storage bag has two portions: 20 ml and 4 ml.
Licensing & Accreditation
The Imunolita laboratory is certified by local authorities.
Imunolita has not released any stored cord blood for transplants yet. The laoratory participates in clinical trials using cord blood and hopes to develop medical products using donated cord blood.
Imunolita does not charge any advance payments: the customer does not pay until after the cord blood is processed and test results are complete, 3-4 weeks after the baby’s birth. If the cord blood cannot be stored for some reason, there is no fee. If the cord blood is needed for a transplant, the family will receive a monetary award to help with their medical expenses.
Free banking is given to families where an immediate relative has a diagnosis for which transplantation is standard therapy.
Imunolita offers the option to have the cord blood typed and listed for donation to an unrelated patient.
