Oklahoma Blood Institute
AboutOklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) launched a public cord blood bank at the beginning of 2014. Oklahoma is home to many minority groups, such as Native Americans, who are not well represented in existing cord blood banks. OBI is working towards the FDA license that will enable them to list their cord blood collections on the Be The Match (NMDP) transplant registry.
OBI is the ninth largest independent, nonprofit blood center in the United States. Their cord blood bank is being established thanks to generous contributions from several Oklahoma foundations and scores of individuals. The medical director of the cord blood bank is John Armitage, M.D.
