Children's Hospital of Oakland is famous for offering the nation's first Sibling Donor cord blood program, where families with a child needing transplant could receive free cord blood banking for a new baby.  Since 2005, the Sibling Connection is run as a partnership between CHORI and the family bank ViaCord.  As of Aug. 2010, St. Joseph Hospital is still the only collection site for the public program.
