BioCells Brasil launched in early 2013. It is a subsidiary of BioCells in Argentina, whose major investor is Cord Blood America Inc. (CBAI)
In Sept. 2010, Cord Blood America (CBAI) acquired a 50.1% ownership of the company.
BioCells collection kit is designed for gravity collection. It uses the Rivero blood bag and the anti-coagulant EDTA. The bag is sterile both inside and out so that it can be used in the operating room for a C-section delivery.
BioCells collection kit has been validated to maintain room temperature under test conditions.
The contract price includes shipping, and arrangements are made by the bank. The courier service, Transportes Ambientales, is available on weekends and holidays.
BioCells employs trained laboratory technicians to separate stem cells by the “Rubinstein method”.
Parents are provided with a certificate describing the results of tests on their child's blood.
Final storage is in blood bags immersed in the vapor phase of cryogenic nitrogen.
Licensing & Accreditation
BioCells is licensed by the Argentina Ministry of Health and accredited under ISO 9001:2008.
BioCells began banking cord blood in 2004, established their own laboratory in 2009, and has an inventory of 4000 as of summer 2011.
Free banking is given to families where an immediate relative has a diagnosis for which transplantation is standard therapy. BioCells gives discounts to medical doctors.
BioCells initial price for enrollment and processing is USD 1400, followed by annual fees of USD 120 to maintain storage. Payment plans are available upon request.
