SiChuan Cord Blood Bank (SCCBB) is one of the seven banking operators approved by the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), People's Republic of China, founded in 1999. SCCBB is also the only approved professional enterprise providing stem cell products and technological services in Western China. SCCBB provides both public and private cord blood banking. The public bank promotes allogeneic donation, while the private bank stores stem cells for family use as a “biological insurance”. SCCBB has stored more than 80,000 cord blood collections and provided over 200 units of cord blood to patients for transplantation.

Labs and Locations

SCCBB’s 11,000 square meters laboratory is located in ZhuXin blood Science & Technology Park in Jinniu District, Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

SCCBB’s laboratory processes cord blood collections 365 days a year, and has the capacity to store the stem cell samples of 200,000 newborns. Phone responses to consumer inquiries are available Monday-Friday 8:30 AM-8:30 PM. In addition, we have counselors on staff to provide a 24 hour emergency response to clients.

SCCBB has stored more than 80,000 cord blood collections from nearly 300 hospitals. Cooperating with dozens of clinical facilities, SCCBB has found matches in about 300 units of cord blood that resulted in over 200 successful transplants for the treatment of almost 20 types of diseases.  

Collection Kit

SCCBB provides a Collection Kit specifically for cord blood stem cells, containing a blood collection bag, a tube for blood from the biological mother, and a collection registration form. Collection of cord blood is performed easily and safely by our skilled, highly trained, licensed collection technologists.

Transportation container

The transport container is insulated to ensure the samples remain at 4-22 degrees Celsius while they are shipped to the SCCBB lab for processing.

Shipping Info

The transport staff of SCCBB are very experienced in transportation of blood. On average, the transport time for stem cells from the hospital to lab is within 24 hours.

Processing Method

SCCBB processes cord blood using both the automated AutoXpress Platform (AXP) and the manual method. The average cell recovery rate remains at a stable level over the years.

Components Stored

Cord blood processing results in a red-cell reduced stem cell product. Each sample is stored in a cryobag with two integrally attached testing segments. At time of storage, the clients are provided with an annual certificate via their online account.

Storage Method

The cord blood units are suspended above a pool of liquid nitrogen that creates a vapor-phase environment kept at minus 196 degrees Celsius. A continued supply of liquid nitrogen is assured by a freezer monitoring system and manual inspection. Cryopreserved cord blood stem cells have proven viable after more than 20 years of storage.

Licensing & Accreditation

SCCBB is registered by NHFPC as a special blood station. The quality standards of SCCBB have been recognized through ISO9001:2008 certification.

Clinical Experience

SCCBB has released over 200 units of cord blood for therapy, including allogeneic transplant, sibling transplant and autologous transplant. The cord blood therapies were used in the treatment of nearly 20 types of diseases, such as blood system diseases, immune system diseases and inherited metabolic disorders.

Insurance

Customers of SCCBB private bank receive a commercial insurance as a gift at the time of storage. If clients use the cord blood stem cells for transplantation, they will receive a insurance benefit up to a maximum of ￥300,000.

SCCBB regularly opens to the public, having received more than 3,000 visitors as a popular science base. SCCBB has also launched public welfare activities, providing free donated cord blood stem cells for the treatment of children that are sick with leukemia.
