About
The
Institute for Transfusion Medicine (ITxM), with headquarters in Pittsburgh, is the parent company of multiple blood-banking concerns, including the
Central Blood Bank which serves the Pittsburgh area, the
LifeSource blood bank which serves the Chicago area, the subsidiary
ITxM Diagnostics, and the subsidiary
ITxM Clinical Services which includes the
Cord Blood Services. ITxM administrative headquarters are in Pittsburgh, but the FDA registration for the cord blood lab is in Rosemont, Illinois. The cord blood bank initially served the Chicago area, but has been expanding to cover more of Illinois and parts of Pennsylvania and Ohio.
The ITxM website gives a list of participating hospitals that collect donations.

HealthConnectOne provides education about cord blood donation at two of the Chicago locations: Mercy Hospital and Mt. Sinai Hospital. HealthConnectOne is a non-profit organization that develops community-based programs to correct racial and socioeconomic disparities in perinatal outcomes. Their
cord blood demonstration project was funded by
The Coleman Foundation.
