Michigan Blood's Cord Blood Bank will mail a collection kit to a qualifying donor if you register ahead of your due date and will be delivering at one of the hospitals in the state at which Michigan Blood operates a blood bank. 

As of Oct. 2012, collection hospitals are:

4. Holland Hospital - Holland, MI
5. Lakeland Reg. Med. Ctr. - St. Joseph, MI
6. Lakeland Community Hospital - Niles, MI
7. Mercy Health Partners - Hackley Campus, Muskegon, MI
8. Metro Health Hospital - Wyoming, MI
9. Mid-Michigan Medical Center - Midland, MI
10. Munson Medical Center - Traverse City, MI
11. North Ottawa Community Hospital - Grand Haven, MI
12. Spectrum Health-Butterworth Campus - Grand Rapids, MI
13. Spectrum Health-Gerber Hospital - Fremont, MI
    
14. St. Mary's Hospital - Grand Rapids, MI
    
15. Zeeland Community Hospital - Zeeland, MI
    

The parents bring the collection kit to the hospital at delivery time and their OB/Gyn or midwife performs the collection.  The blood bank provides courier service to bring the cord blood to the central laboratory.  The cord blood is processed with a procedure similar to that developed at the NY Blood Center.
