NY Blood Center Lobbies Congress
February/March 2005
Doctors and patients from the NY Blood Center lobby Congress to immediately pass the Cord Blood Stem Cell Act of 2005 (H.R. 596 introduced 2 Feb, or S.681, introduced 17 Mar), before the Institute of Medicine has released its report on the Cord Blood Stem Cell Act of 2003. The 2005 bill is a replay of the 2003 bill. Congress has already appropriated funds for the 2003 bill. However, the NYTimes reports that President Bush wants to axe the National Cord Blood Program.
