Buying Cord Blood stem cells on-line

As of Nov 2004, it was possible for anybody to visit the website of Cambrex Corporation (NYSE:CBM), a biopharmaceutical company located in NJ, and order cord blood stem cells on-line.  For $349, you could select 100 million cells of either fresh MNC (part code 1C-150A), collected from deliveries at local hospitals, or cryopreserved MNC (part code 2C-150A), and move it to your on-line shopping cart. On-line orders are accepted for customers in the USA and Canada. Shipping was by UPS, major credit cards accepted.

Since then, the website has been modified to require user registration.  This is just an example of the market for cord blood donations that are sold for research, and is not meant to single out Cambrex Corp. in particular.
