Under Congressional mandate, the Institute of Medicine study of the National Cord Blood Stem Cell Bank Program appoints a committee and holds its first meeting. On 29 May, the NY Times published an article about the hearings, titled "THERAPY IMPASSE -- A Cancer Hope Deferred; Blood Treatment's Promise Mired in Bureaucracy".
