Collection Kit

Prior to labor, Lifeline provides clients with the Life-kit: A novel blood and tissue collection and transportation kit, designed by Lifeline which enables the safe collection and shipment of the units by ground or air.

Transportation Container

The Life-kit used for the collection of the stem cells, is also used for the transportation of the units to the bank. It is made of thermally insulated material, conforming to the IATA UN 3373 regulations, and it is suitable for the safe transportation of biological materials. At the same time it provides continuous monitoring and recording of temperatures during transit while it also bears a unique identification code to ensure maximum traceability of the units at all times

Shipping Info:

ifeline receives samples 365 days a year. The daily delivery of blood and tissue units is performed via authorized couriers.

Processing Method

All cord blood units are processed by the Sepax automated cell separation technology from Biosafe which offers additional safety and quality of the cellular therapy products.  Sepax is an automated technology for the separation of cells conforming to EU and international quality standards. Over 11000 cord blood units processed with Sepax have already been transplanted to patients worldwide.

Components Stored

The cord blood units are processed by Sepax to produce a smaller, concentrated units called "buffy coat" which is stored as a cellular therapy product containing viable stem cells. Parents are provided with a certificate for the banking of their cellular therapy products which includes detailed information such as blood volume, the blood group of the infant, viable stem cell content and the results of clinical tests.

Storage Method

Cell separation is followed by vacuum sealing of the blood in a double compartment cryobag for long term storage. Lifeline preserves units in dedicated state-of-the-art cryobanks in liquid nitrogen vapour, reaching -196 degrees C, offering temperature stability. Temperature readings are recorded electronically every 15 minutes and compiled for each individual client record.
